PSA: The new 'native only' planting rule at our city park is causing a real split.

I was walking through Riverside Park yesterday and saw the new signs explaining they're only planting local species from now on. The butterfly garden looked a bit sparse, honestly. Some folks I talked to there love the idea for helping local bugs and birds. Others think it makes the gardens look boring and misses a chance to show cool plants from other places. What's the better move for a public space, sticking strictly to natives or having a mix?

I always thought being honest about a bad first date was a mistake

Last month, I went out with someone from an app and the vibe was just off, like we were from different planets. Instead of the usual 'had a nice time' text, I sent, 'Hey, I didn't feel a spark, but I hope you find it.' She actually replied thanking me for not ghosting and we had a short, nice chat about the weird sushi place I'd picked. It felt way better than the usual awkward fade out. Has anyone else tried being that direct and had it go okay?

A building manager in Phoenix tried to argue with me about a code violation on a traction motor replacement

He kept pointing at the old motor and saying 'It worked fine for 20 years, just put the new one in the same spot.' I had to pull out the code book and show him the updated clearance requirements, specifically section 2.7.3. He finally backed down, but it was a solid hour of my day gone. Anyone else run into pushback on code updates from non-mechanics lately?

My old camp stove gave out on me in the middle of making coffee

It was a cold morning in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and my trusty single-burner just wouldn't light. I fumbled with it for like 20 minutes, trying every trick I knew. Finally, the valve just spun freely and a tiny hiss of gas came out. I had to pack up and drive into town for a terrible gas station brew. Anyone have a rec for a super reliable, simple stove that won't quit?

My last-minute baguette bake changed my mind about slow proofing

Everyone acts like you must proof dough for ages to get good flavor. I had a party coming up and only had an afternoon to make bread. So I skipped the usual overnight chill and let it rise in a sunny spot. The baguettes came out crispy and everyone raved about them. Maybe we put too much stock in long waits sometimes.
