Why does nobody talk about how book clubs kill the joy of re-reading?

I used to think re-reading a favorite novel was a waste of time until my group in Austin picked a book I'd already read twice. Halfway through the debate, I realized I had caught three details nobody else noticed, and one person said 'wait, that was in chapter 4?' That changed my view on rereads for good. Has anyone else found gold in a second pass that the whole group missed?
