Coptic stitch tension finally clicked after 2 years of saggy spines
Honestly I've been bookbinding for about 2 years and always wondered why my Coptic stitch books had that annoying sag in the middle of the spine. Tbh I thought it was just the paper weight or my hole punching being off. Then last month I watched a video from a binder in Portland who showed how she pulls each thread toward the spine, not outward, before tying the knot. Tried it on a 120 page sketchbook and the difference was night and day, no more gaps between sections. Anyone else struggle with thread tension or did everyone figure this out way before me? Also, any tips for keeping the kettle stitch from twisting on taller books?
