I paid $180 for a used standing press on Craigslist and it either saved my life or wasted a whole corner of my shop
Saw it listed three towns over and figured for $180 even a wobbly one beats stacking encyclopedias on a dry book overnight. The thing weighs about 90 pounds, the screw is pitted, and my back hates it, but every text block I press in it comes out dead flat while my buddy swears his cheap nipping press does the same job in half the space. So is a big old press worth the floor space and the sore shoulder, or did I just buy a really heavy paperweight?
A 90 pound press sitting in one spot for years will sink into the floor and level itself out, which no cheap nipping press ever does since you keep sliding it around. Plus you can press more than one book at a time in that thing, which your buddy with the small press can't do.
