My 3 year old practice journal vs the one I made last month, the paper difference is wild
So I keep a practice journal for all my binding work. Notes on grain direction, stitch tension, that kind of thing. The old one is 3 years old and the pages are holding up fine. The new one I bound 5 weeks ago is already falling apart at the spine. Same thread, same stitch, same boards. The only thing that changed is the paper. I ran out of my usual 80 lb text weight and grabbed a pack of 24 lb copy paper from the office supply place on a Tuesday because I was in a hurry. That thin stuff just cannot take the stress of opening and closing. The signatures pull right through the holes. I knew paper weight mattered but I did not think it mattered that much. Has anyone else made this exact mistake and is there a fix short of rebinding the whole thing?
