That one customer who wanted a book bound in bacon
Last month a guy came into my shop in Portland and handed me a slab of bacon, dead serious, asking if I could bind his family cookbook in it. I told him it would rot and smell awful, but he kept insisting until I showed him a scrap of leather and said this was the closest I'd get. Anyone else had a request so wild you almost wished you'd tried it just for the story?
…so he just walked in with a raw slab of pork and expected you to take it seriously? I mean, come on, that's not a real request, that's a dare or a prank or maybe he watched too many weird food shows. And even if you did try it, what would you even bind it with, string and hope? The thing would grease up every page and probably attract every stray cat in Portland within an hour. People love to act like they'd do something wild just for the story, but stories about ruined books and rotten meat aren't exactly dinner table gold. You did the right thing showing him the leather, and honestly, the fact he backed off proves he wasn't that dedicated to the bit.
