Hot take: I thought the laser level was just a fancy toy until last month's job
We had to build a long garden wall with a curve in it, about 50 feet total. My boss brought out a DeWalt laser level and I rolled my eyes, thinking my string line and level were fine. He set it up in 5 minutes and we laid the first course perfectly straight and level across the whole run. The curve part was way easier because we could just follow the laser dot on each brick. I've been using it on every job since. Anyone have a good trick for keeping the laser receiver working when the sun is really bright?

My DeWalt receiver works in bright sun if I shade it with my hand or a scrap of wood. Not a toy, @juliag10, it saved us a full day on that curved wall.

Ever think your boss just bought a toy to look smart?

You really think a boss would waste company money just to look cool? That DeWalt gear saved a whole day of work, which means real money saved on labor. If a tool pays for itself that fast, it's a smart buy, not a toy. Calling it a toy just because it's new tech ignores how it actually gets the job done better. Sometimes the flashy thing is also the practical thing.
