Can we talk about dried beans versus canned for chili?

I made two batches last week, and the dried version cost about 75 cents less per pot and had way better texture. Anyone have a favorite bean type for stretching a meal?

Just soak some beans, it's not that deep.

Ever try pinto beans from dry? They get so creamy inside but still hold their shape, which is perfect for chili. I used to grab cans for speed, but after one pot turned to mush I switched. Soaking overnight is a pain, but that texture is just... it's a different meal.
