I finally get why people swear by soaking beans overnight

In my experience, skipping the soak to save an hour just means tough beans and wasted fuel. Your mileage may vary, but taking the time up front makes the whole meal cheaper and better. Do you think cutting corners on prep actually costs more in the end?

Remember, unsoaked beans take way longer to cook, so that's where the real fuel waste happens.

Yeah that point about fuel waste really hits home @adam_thompson53. I never really thought about it that way before but you're totally right. It takes forever to cook dry beans and that's a lot of gas or electricity just running. I always forget to soak them overnight and then regret it when my pot is boiling for hours lol. Seriously makes me want to be better about planning ahead.

Also, the water waste is huge with that long boil.
