Serious question about dried beans vs canned after I did the math

I was meal prepping last Sunday for the week and grabbed a bag of dried pintos for $1.79 at the grocery store on Broadway. That one bag made about 7 cups of cooked beans, which is the same as almost 4 cans at $1.50 each. So I basically saved around $4.20 on that one meal prep session, which is a whole extra snack for the week. Has anyone else actually weighed out the savings on dried beans versus canned for their budget?

Wait hold on, you made 7 cups of cooked beans from one $1.79 bag? That's actually insane. I've been buying canned beans my whole life and never once considered how much I was throwing away. So you're telling me that bag of dried pintos is basically 4 cans worth for less than half the price of just one can? I'm honestly kinda mad I never did this math myself before. The only thing that scares me is the time it takes to soak and cook them, but for that kind of savings I guess you can't beat it.

Doesn't it feel like the more we try to save money, the more we end up paying for the convenience of not thinking? It's funny how a little bit of planning always beats the easy option in the long run.

Totally agree with that, @gavina73. I tried the dried bean thing myself last month and it honestly paid off way more than I expected. The key for me was making a big batch on Sunday and freezing portions in old yogurt containers. Took maybe an hour of active time total, and now I've got quick beans for tacos, soups, or whatever all month. Canned beans taste flat to me now after having the real deal.
