Stopped at a food bank class and saw a smart way to stretch chicken
Last Tuesday I went with my neighbor to a free cooking class at the food bank in Tacoma. The instructor showed how to turn one $6 rotisserie chicken into four separate meals: soup, tacos, fried rice, and a casserole. She saved every bone and scrap for broth, then used the leftover veggie ends too. The whole demo made enough food for a family of four for about $14 total. It got me thinking about how much I waste at home without even noticing. Has anyone else tried making multiple meals from one chicken like that?
The part about saving every bone and scrap for broth really hit home. Most folks I know, including myself, would toss those without a second thought. It's crazy how a little patience and planning can turn one chicken into a whole week of dinners. I've tried stretching a rotisserie chicken before, but never got four full meals out of it, so this gives me some new ideas. Good on the food bank for teaching practical stuff like this.
