My buddy in Denver made me question why I always fly Spirit
Was talking to my friend Mike last week while he was packing for a trip to Chicago. He booked a roundtrip on Southwest for $120 total, no bag fees, and he gets to pick his seat. Meanwhile I spent $90 on Spirit thinking I saved money but then paid $65 for two carry ons and got stuck in a middle seat. Made me realize I've been penny wise and pound foolish this whole time. Anyone else feel like the budget airlines actually cost more after fees?

That line "penny wise and pound foolish" really hits home for me. I mean, you paid $90 for the ticket but $65 for bags, so that's $155 total for a middle seat on Spirit, compared to Mike's $120 for a whole Southwest trip with bags included and a choice spot. So my question is, after factoring in the stress of boarding last and the chance of getting stuck in that dreaded middle seat, do you think the total experience is worth the extra $35 you saved over Southwest? Feels like the real cost isn't just money, it's your sanity waiting at the gate.

Sounds like you paid extra for the privilege of stress and a middle seat.
