My camping stove died 3 days into a 7 day trip in Yosemite

I was out near Tuolumne Meadows and my trusty little butane stove just stopped working. The valve got all clogged up somehow and I could not get it to light. I had 4 more days of food that needed cooking but no way to heat it up. Luckily I remembered a trick from some blog about using rocks to build a simple fire pit. I spent 2 hours gathering dry wood and managed to cook my pasta over the coals. Was it worth the extra effort? I saved money on not buying a new stove but my arms were sore for a week lol. Has anyone else dealt with gear failure mid trip?

Read somewhere you can boil water in a paper cup over a fire. Always wanted to try that.
