Hit $10K in emergency savings, then my car died the same week

I set a goal back in January to reach $10,000 in my emergency fund by October. Last Friday I finally transferred the last $300 from my paycheck to hit that number. Then Saturday morning my transmission starting making this awful grinding noise on I-35 in Austin. The repair quote came to $2,400, which would have wiped out a third of that fund. But the win is that I didn't panic or reach for a credit card, I just paid it and moved on. Has anyone else hit a milestone only to have life test it right away?

Used to think emergency funds were overkill, but now I get why they exist.
