I chose to fix my old car's AC for $500 instead of buying a new one, and it's still running great a year later.

I mean, I was looking at a $300 monthly payment for a new car, but my mechanic said the compressor was the only real issue, so I took the gamble and it paid off, has anyone else had a win with repairing something major instead of replacing it?

Used to be the type to just replace things when they broke. Then my ten year old washing machine started making a death rattle. A repair guy found a worn out belt and a loose bolt, fixed it for under a hundred bucks. That was five years ago and it still runs like a champ. Makes you realize how much gets thrown out for a simple fix.

Under a hundred bucks" is the part that gets me. I haven't seen a repair bill that low in years. Most guys charge that much just to walk in the door. You really lucked out finding that guy.
