inAppreciation post: I chose the Fluke 87V over a cheaper meter for my bench at the regional airport, and it saved me a whole afternoon chasing a phantom voltage drop in a Citation's nav system.
Yeah, totally. My friend was putting up a ceiling fan with a bargain bin cordless drill. The clutch gave out at the worst time, and he drove a screw straight through a wire in the ceiling box. That one slip cost him way more in an electrician's call-out than a decent drill would have. It's never just about the tool breaking, it's about it failing exactly when you need it to work right.

inJust hit my first full year of working from a single backpack
That's awesome, a full year is legit. What's the one thing you almost left behind but ended up needing all the time?

inThought the new flexible camera rods were a gimmick until a job in St. Louis.
That's how the best tools always get you.

inJust hit 1000 linear feet of cedar fence installed this season
Ever think about what that looks like all in one line? That's a lot of boards and posts. Sounds like a solid season for sure.

inRant: My cheap infrared temp gun gave me a false reading on a 6.7 Powerstroke
Yeah, that shiny metal will mess with the cheap ones every time. @amy_adams13 is totally right about the Klein Tools option, that's a solid step up without going full pro-shop price. The key is looking for a higher distance-to-spot ratio, even on a mid-range gun. It makes a huge difference on small, reflective parts like turbo housings. I learned to put a piece of black electrical tape on the spot I want to read if I'm in a pinch, it gives the sensor something to actually read. Saves you from tearing into something for no reason.
