My car's AC died in the middle of a Phoenix summer and I had to get creative with the repair bill.

Phoenix summer" is the part that got me. That is NOT a joke. I had a friend out there whose plastic dashboard actually MELTED last year. The idea of the AC just quitting in that heat is a full-on emergency. You must have been driving with the windows down in what feels like a hair dryer. How did you even THINK straight enough to fix it?

Right? It's a special kind of awful. My car's AC gave out on the 10 last July and I swear I could feel my brain cooking. I ended up wrapping a wet bandana around my neck just to keep from passing out while I pulled over. The heat out here turns every little car problem into a survival test.

Honestly the "full-on emergency" part is where I see it different. Maybe it's because I grew up here, but your brain just clicks into a different mode. You don't think straight, you just do the next thing to survive, like @miamitchell said with the wet bandana. It becomes automatic. Fixing it feels less like clear thought and more like following steps you hope you remember right. The heat makes everything urgent, but it also makes you weirdly focused on just solving the problem.
