Rant: My jar saving habit made candle making way cheaper
I always threw out empty jars after finishing the food inside. Then I noticed how pricey new candle containers were at the store. It dawned on me that I could just wash and keep those jars. Now I have a free supply for all my projects. This little change saves me cash every single month.

How do you deal with the leftover labels and glue? I found that soaking jars in hot, soapy water loosens most labels, but for the sticky residue, a little baking soda paste with some scrubbing works. The real pain is getting the last bit of wax out from the bottom of some jars, a butter knife usually does the trick.

My friend Lisa in Austin had a nightmare with candle jar labels last month. She soaked them in hot water, but the glue just turned into this gummy mess. She tried rubbing alcohol on a cloth, and it came off pretty easy, but she had to do each jar like three times. For the wax, she put the jars in the freezer overnight, and then popped it out with a spoon. She said it was satisfying but way more work than she expected.
