Took 4 months to fix our grocery spreadsheet mess

We started tracking every food purchase in a shared Google Sheet back in March, but the categories kept drifting and totals never matched. After four months of tweaks and three deleted versions, I finally made a locked template with fixed labels like "produce" and "bulk" instead of free text. It took one full Sunday in Denver to rebuild it, but now our monthly food spend lines up to the penny. Has anyone else hit the same wall with shared budget files that get too complicated?
