A talk with my daughter made me rethink my whole system

My 16 year old saw me setting up my weekly spread last Sunday and asked why I spend an hour on the fancy headers. She said it looks nice but she just uses a plain list in a notebook for her homework and it works fine. I realized I had been decorating my journal more than actually using it for tracking habits or tasks. I spent the next afternoon stripping my layout down to just the basics and it feels a lot more useful now. Has anyone else ever had to simplify their setup after getting too fancy with it?

Oh man, I feel this so hard! I once spent three hours making a mood tracker with little watercolor flowers for each emotion, and then I never wrote down a single mood because I was scared of ruining the pretty page. My husband was like "you could just, you know, write the word 'sad' in a box" and I acted offended but he was totally right. Now my weekly spread is literally just a list of days with boxes next to them, takes me five minutes, and I actually use the thing.

The real trick is finding out what you actually need before you buy anything. Most people pick up all the fancy supplies first and then figure out they just need a pen and paper.
