Yeah, I learned this the hard way with a bargain notebook and a ballpoint pen. The ink didn't just smear, it went full ghost image onto the next five pages. My notes for a whole meeting just turned into a big blue blob. Now I have a strict no liquid ink on cheap paper rule, it's not worth the mess.
