Saw a bumper sticker in the Walmart lot in Reno that said "Honk if you love Jesus" and I watched 40 cars do nothing
I was loading groceries in the Walmart parking lot off 2nd Street in Reno on a Tuesday and this minivan had that classic "Honk if you love Jesus" sticker on the back. I stood there for a good 10 minutes just watching people pull in and out, and not one single person honked. A guy in a truck behind it actually laid on his horn for a solid 5 seconds but only because the minivan was blocking the lane. It got me thinking, are people not honking because they don't love Jesus or because nobody wants to be that weirdo honking in a parking lot? What's the deal with these stickers anyway, do they ever actually work or are they just decoration at this point?
Man, bumper stickers in general are a whole thing. I saw one last month that said "My other car is a bike" and I sat there wondering if the guy even owns a bike or if he just likes the joke. Same deal with the Jesus ones I bet, half the people who have them probably just think it looks nice next to their fish symbol. Honking in a parking lot is a weird social contract too, like you're agreeing to some stranger's test of faith while you're just trying to get your ice cream home before it melts. I read once that those stickers started back in the 70s as a way for church groups to spot each other on the road, so the whole point was kind of a secret handshake thing. Now it's just background noise, like a yard sign nobody reads.
