The day I stopped fighting with seam tape in the summer

I was installing berber in Houston last July and the heat was making my seam tape curl before I could even get it down. After ruining three rows I finally called a buddy who said to stick the rolls in a cooler with an ice pack for 15 minutes before using them, and it worked like a charm. Has anyone else found a weird trick like that for sticky situations?

My buddy swore by that cheap $15 tool set from Harbor Freight for 2 years before I caved and bought one last month,

I finally borrowed his ratchet after my Craftsman broke on a rusty bolt and honestly the thing held up fine, has anyone else had a cheap tool surprise them like that?

TIL that old timer at the supply house was right about using anti-oxidant on aluminum wire

He told me last spring after my third nuisance trip on a 200 amp panel in Phoenix that I was getting false readings from a bad connection, and sure enough that paste fixed the whole thing, has anyone else had an inspector flag them for skipping that step?

Switched from a monthly layout to a weekly rolling log and it saved my setup

I was cramming every task into those tiny monthly boxes for 6 months and kept running out of space, so I tried a basic weekly rolling log with just a few columns. Now my week actually fits on one page - has anyone else found monthlies just don't work for busy schedules?

The time I took a girl to a cat cafe and she turned out to be allergic

I spent like 3 weeks planning this date with this girl I met on Hinge. Found this cool cat cafe in downtown Portland that had like 20 rescue cats roaming around. Seemed perfect because she said she loved animals. We get there, order coffee, and within 5 minutes her eyes are watering and she's sneezing like crazy. Turns out she's super allergic to cats but thought she could power through it lol. We lasted maybe 20 minutes before we had to leave. She was cool about it but the whole vibe was ruined. Has anyone else had a date plan backfire because of something dumb like this?

Bowls or plates on the bottom row - is there actually a right answer?

My roommate just told me bowls trap water on the bottom rack and cause rust, but I've been stacking them there for years with no issues... has anyone else had problems with bowls on the bottom or is that just a myth?

My offset smoker fell apart mid-cook on Saturday

I was doing a 12 hour brisket for a family thing and about hour 6 the weld on my firebox door just snapped clean off. Smoke started pouring out the side and I couldnt get the temp back up over 225. Ended up having to finish the whole thing in my oven at 250 for the last 4 hours. The brisket still turned out okay but the bark was way softer than usual. Has anyone else had a pit fail on them mid-smoke and had to get creative with a backup plan?

Tried staggering my butt joints on a 14-foot ceiling wall instead of lining them up

My partner argued it would take longer but I saved about 45 minutes on taping because the seams didn't stack up, has anyone else given this a shot on tall walls?

Paid $60 for a silpat mat and it saved my third batch of macarons

I kept burning the bottoms of my macarons no matter what I did with parchment paper. Finally dropped money on a real silpat mat and the feet came out perfect on the first try. No more peeling paper off failed shells or dealing with uneven heat. Has anyone else found a specific tool that fixed a recurring baking problem?

Kneedown seam cutter bit the dust mid-job last Friday

I was about halfway through seaming a 12 foot wide stretch of carpet in a living room in Golden when my seam cutter just locked up. The blade wouldn't spin at all and I could hear the bearing grinding inside. Tried spraying some WD-40 on it but that didn't do anything. Ended up having to drive 20 minutes to the nearest supply house to grab a replacement. Cost me about 45 bucks and lost almost an hour of work time. The old one was only about 8 months old so I'm kinda ticked about that. Has anyone else had a seam cutter fail that quick or did I just get a lemon?
