Unpopular opinion: those cheap push-on F connectors are a scam and they finally cost me a callback
Had a job out in Beaverton two weeks back, a basic internet only install for a guy working from home, and I was already running behind because my earlier job had a bad drop. I rushed the wall plate behind his desk and grabbed a push-on connector out of the bottom of my bag instead of crimping a compression one like I always do. Fast forward four days and he calls the office saying his speeds tank at random, drops to like 12 megs on a 500 plan. I go back out, pull the plate, and that push-on is just hanging there, center conductor wobbled loose and the shield was barely touching. Swap it for a proper compression fitting and he's pulling 480 all day. I know a couple guys on my crew swear push-ons are fine for a quick service call, but that one connector ate a whole second truck roll and about an hour of my day over something that costs maybe 15 cents more. So what's your cutoff, do you still keep a stash of push-ons in the van or did you toss them completely?
