Question about tipping at the farmers market popups
I set up a little coffee cart at the Echo Park farmers market last Sunday and noticed almost NOBODY tips when they pay with card, but every cash customer throws in a buck or two. Is that just a card reader thing, or do you guys put out a tip jar and still see the same split?

Honestly I think the cash crowd tips more because they SEE the jar sitting there and feel put on the spot, while card payers just tap and go without giving it a second thought. You could put a little sign by the card reader that says "tips appreciated" and a jar right next to it, but honestly people who pay with plastic are already in a rush and usually don't carry singles anyway. If your prices are fair and the coffee's good, the tip split probably isn't about your service, it's just how people behave with two different payment styles.
