That week we had to throw out 50 pounds of beans because of a busted grinder
Our main Mahlkonig grinder in the back just died on a Wednesday, and we had a catering order for 200 people on Friday. We had to use the old backup one, but it was so inconsistent we had to dump a whole batch. It was a huge money hit, maybe $400 gone. Anyone else had a piece of equipment fail right before a big rush?

Yeah, that "backup plan is the thing that actually costs you" line from lindamartin hits hard. Read a piece once about how old backup gear gives a false sense of security. You end up trusting it, then it fails when the pressure is on. Real cost isn't just the rental fee, it's the lost product and stress.

That backup grinder situation is a real gut punch. Makes you wonder about the cost of keeping old gear around versus just renting a pro machine for a week. The rental fee would have been way less than four hundred bucks in lost beans. Sometimes the backup plan is the thing that actually costs you.
