A client in Austin swore his vintage Leica's shutter issue was just 'dust' and nearly wrecked it trying to blow it out with canned air before bringing it to me.
He said 'it just needs a good puff' right as I opened it to find the delicate curtain ribbon was already fraying from his attempt, so what's the most stubborn wrong idea you've had to talk a customer down from?

Got a guy once who was sure his old lens haze was just on the outside. I mean, he wanted to use glass cleaner on the inner elements, had to really explain how that would ruin the coatings.

My buddy had a similar thing happen with his grandpa's old camera. The old man was convinced the fungus inside could be wiped off with a paper towel and some spit. Took forever to convince him those little swirls were actually etched into the glass forever.

Wait, did @wyatt_thomas say the fungus was etched into the glass? I thought it just ate the coating and left marks. The glass itself is usually fine, just ugly.
