TIL a pitmaster in Austin changed my mind about wrapping brisket

Hold up, you said a FOUR hour rest? That's the part that got me. I can barely wait an hour before I start picking at it. Four whole hours just sitting there, smelling up the kitchen, and you're not supposed to touch it? That's some next level patience I don't have. I guess that's the real secret they don't tell you.

A client in Austin swore his vintage Leica's shutter issue was just 'dust' and nearly wrecked it trying to blow it out with canned air before bringing it to me.

My buddy had a similar thing happen with his grandpa's old camera. The old man was convinced the fungus inside could be wiped off with a paper towel and some spit. Took forever to convince him those little swirls were actually etched into the glass forever.

Unpopular opinion: I switched from manual sand ramming to a pneumatic vibrator for core boxes about a year ago

Our shop in Toledo made the switch three years back. We used to get a lot of shrinkage on our gray iron valve bodies. After we started vibrating the cores, that problem just went away. The sand packs more evenly around the prints. I don't miss ramming those deep pockets one bit.

Warning: That 'quick' 3-day boiler swap in Akron turned into a 10-day nightmare because of old, mismatched flanges.

Ugh, that sounds so familiar! We had the same thing happen with a water heater last winter, everything was rusted together.

Update: I used to think letting a facial recognition app scan my photos was fine for the cool filters, but after reading that Vice article about how the data gets sold to third-party analytics firms, I deleted the app and spent an hour trying to revoke its permissions.

I get what king.derek is saying about built-in editors, but I mean, they're pretty limited. I use Snapseed for most stuff, it's free and only asks for access to the specific photo you're working on. It doesn't need to dig through your whole library.
