Appreciation post: My $80 lens spanner wrench finally paid for itself

It let me fix a stuck zoom ring on a vintage 70-210mm in ten minutes instead of sending it out. What's your go-to tool that seemed pricey but you use all the time now?

Remember scoffing at the price of my JIS screwdriver set... felt like a total fool until I tried fixing a sticky aperture ring with a regular Phillips and just chewed up the screws. That was a bad day. Patricia317's rubber glove trick works for filter rings, but for actual disassembly you need the right tools or you'll make a simple job a nightmare. Now that little set lives in my bag and has saved like three old lenses from becoming paperweights.

Ever learn the hard way too?

Sounds like a lot for a single tool. Couldn't you have just used a rubber glove or something for grip first?
