Do you fully strip a camera or fix only what the customer paid for?
A customer brought in a Nikon FM2 last Tuesday with a squeaky shutter and I told him I would swap the mirror bumper too, since the foam was mush. He said just do the shutter, so I did, and now he is mad the foam crumbled into his viewfinder a month later. Do you all replace every worn part you spot while the body is open, or stick strictly to the original complaint and document the rest?
Tell the customer the foam is shot and if he says no, put it in writing on the ticket and have him sign it. Skipping a part you know is bad just means he comes back mad at you, and now the shutter job looks bad too. Fix what they pay for, but make them say no on paper so it is on them, not you.
