Guy at the counter in Boise said my shutter tests were sloppy and he was not wrong
About a month ago a repair tech in Boise watched me run a shutter test and said my numbers on the slow speeds were off by almost 20 percent because I was not letting the tester warm up. I argued at first but he showed me back to back runs and the second run always settled closer. Now I plug the tester in 15 minutes before I touch a curtain, and my slow speed callbacks have basically stopped. Does anyone else warm up their gear before testing, or am I the only one who was skipping that?
That line about not letting the tester warm up hit home for me because I did the exact same thing for years without knowing it. The old guy who trained me never mentioned it once, so I just plugged in and started shooting, and my slow speeds were all over the place. Good on you for actually listening to the Boise tech instead of digging in, that kind of advice is worth more than the test itself.
