Thought I'd have a Canon AE-1 shutter swap done in a night, it ate my whole weekend
Picked up a $40 AE-1 at a garage sale in Sacramento that had a squeaky mirror and a shutter that dragged at 1/1000. I figured it was a two hour job, pop the top, clean the gears, done. Four hours in I still couldn't get the mirror box seated right and the timing was off at every speed, so I gave up at 1am and started over Saturday with the service manual printed out. Ended up being about 11 hours total across two days, most of it just fiddling with the curtain tension screws a quarter turn at a time. Any of you have a camera that always turns into a bigger job than it should be?
