Camping stove fight over cold beans last season

Last fall, our group camp had a issue when a mate's stove died right as we cooked. We ended up with cold beans for dinner, which was kinda lame. Half of us now swear by digging deep into online reviews before any buy. The other half says you learn from fails and reviews are just ads. It got pretty heated over the fire. Have you seen this split in your crew? How do you decide on gear trust?

Seriously? You're having a fight about bean reviews? The people writing 800 words about stove wind resistance are the same ones returning socks for not being breathable enough. My stove from the big box store has worked fine for ten years. It's just beans, man.

Yeah exactly like mason_jenkins10 said, it's just beans. I mean some of those reviews get so deep into stuff that does not matter at all. Idk when everyone started needing the perfect thing for every single little task. My big box store stove works fine too, maybe it's just me but reading a novel about pot material feels like a lot. People act like picking the wrong can opener will ruin their life.

Ugh, my friend once spent three days reading reviews for a tomato can opener. She missed book club because she was down a rabbit hole about gear ratios. For tomatoes.
