PSA: My new tent's rainfly took me 45 minutes to figure out

I was setting up a brand new two-person tent in my backyard last week, a calm evening before a trip. The main body went up fine, but the rainfly had these weird, identical-looking plastic clips on all four corners. I spent a solid half hour trying to match them to the poles before my partner walked over and said, 'I think you clip it to the fabric loops, not the poles.' It was another 15 minutes of fumbling to get it snapped on right. Has anyone else had a simple piece of gear turn into a logic puzzle?

Man, I used to be the guy who would just muscle through and get mad at the gear. But after a trip where I set my tent up wrong in the dark and got soaked, I had to change my tune. Now I actually read the little picture guide or do a test run at home. It feels silly but it saves so much hassle later. Why do they make those clips look like they go on the poles anyway?

My first hammock setup looked like a spider web gone wrong for an hour.

That first hour is just part of the learning curve, honestly.
