Cancel culture burned me when I backed the wrong public figure with real cash
I threw $50 at a GoFundMe for that indie author who got cancelled for an old tweet about mental health. Turned out the tweet was way worse than the internet let on, and I felt like I supported something gross. I learned to dig deeper before donating, because now I'm out the cash and my name is tied to funding someone kinda awful. The whole mess made me realize I need to wait for full context before pulling out my wallet. Has anyone else regretted spending money on a cancelled person before the whole story came out?

ugh that sucks, i feel you. i backed a musician who turned out to be a total creep and i was so mad at myself for not waiting to see the whole picture. it's rough when your good intentions backfire like that.

i feel you" is right, I backed a cat shelter that turned out to be a front for a raccoon smuggling ring.

Wait, raccoons? Like actual raccoons being smuggled? That's wild. I had something similar happen but with a dog rescue that turned out to be hoarding animals in a tiny basement with no ventilation. I donated like 200 bucks and felt so stupid when I found out the whole thing was a mess. Makes you want to vet every single person before giving them a dime. You're not alone in that, trust me.
