inTIL I was using too much water in my mortar mixing
Man that old timer Pete knew what he was talking about. I had a similar thing happen with my pointing work in a basement last year. This old school Italian guy walked by and told me my mix was too wet and that I was basically making mud pies. He showed me to mix it dry enough that it barely stuck to the trowel, then pack it in with a few firm taps. Total game changer. Now I keep my mix stiff like play dough and my joints stay tight for years instead of crumbling out after one winter.

Was there any fraying or birdcaging at the drum before it happened?

inCaught myself defending AI art on Reddit until someone posted the original artist's work side by side
I did the same thing. I went back through about three months of posts and just hit delete on anything that felt too much like a chatbot wrote it. It was actually pretty freeing, like cleaning out a closet you've been meaning to get to. I started using a simple rule for myself, if I wouldn't say it to someone's face in a coffee shop, I don't post it. I also stopped using any tool that tries to "help" me write better. It just feels more honest now, even if my grammar is a little rough around the edges.
