Heard a guy at a Denver coffee shop say 'we don't cancel people, we just never book them again' and I can't stop thinking about it
He was talking about a comedian who got dropped from 3 clubs in 2022 and now plays a 90 seat room for $15 a ticket. Is that actually a fair outcome, or is it just a quieter way to end someone's career?
we don't cancel people, we just never book them again" sounds clever but it's not some secret plot. Clubs don't owe comics a stage. If a guy got dropped by 3 rooms, that's 3 bookers who made their own calls. And plenty of comics work small rooms for years, 90 seats and $15 a ticket is a normal Tuesday for a lot of people. The part that bugs me is acting like this guy had a huge career and it got taken away. He plays a small room now, so what. Half the comics in Denver would take that gig.
