I keep seeing the same wrong take about 'The OA' and it's driving me nuts
Everyone says it was too weird and that's why Netflix canceled it, but that's not the full story. The show had a huge, active fan base that even staged a real life protest outside their offices. I was part of the online push that got #SaveTheOA trending for a solid week. The real issue was the budget for the planned seasons, not the ideas. Has anyone else seen a show with that much fan push still get left hanging?

3 seasons planned and they bailed anyway. That stings but is it really that deep?

3 seasons planned and they bailed" is literally the part that gets me fired up every time. Like, you had a complete story mapped out, the fans were literally camped outside Netflix's doors, and they STILL pulled the plug? I was there in that Twitter storm too, remember seeing people send them those little origami birds by the hundreds. That kind of grassroots push is rare, and they threw it away over money. It just feels like they didn't trust the audience to stick with it, even though we proved we would.

Oh totally, it's not like they had a whole writers room cranking out scripts for a story that literally had a planned ending, right? Like, why would you need to follow through on a commitment when you can just cancel it and blame the algorithm? I swear, Netflix probably had some executive be like "but the data says viewers stop after episode 2" while ignoring the literal pile of origami birds sitting in the mailroom. And the best part? They'll greenlight another show about a guy who can talk to his own reflection or something equally bizarre next quarter. Real smart move, guys. Real smart.
