I think Firefly actually got the right amount of episodes back in 2002

Everyone always says Firefly deserved a full 5 season run but I disagree... I just rewatched the whole series over a weekend and counted exactly 14 episodes plus Serenity. That tight package told a complete story without dragging out the plotlines like other shows do. For a space western, it hit all the right beats and left us wanting more instead of going stale. Does anyone else think short runs force better writing?

Totally agree with this... the short run forced them to actually cut all the filler. Compare it to something like The Expanse where they just kept adding subplots that went nowhere. Firefly had zero wasted scenes in my opinion... every single line moved the plot forward or built character. It's why fans can still quote whole episodes word for word 20 years later. That kind of tight writing just doesn't happen when a network orders 22 episodes and expects you to stretch out a half baked idea.

Totally, you nailed it. Every scene in Firefly actually mattered.
