I used to demand 6 seasons for every show I loved, now I think a 2 season run is actually the right call
Back in 2019 I was one of those people signing every petition for a third season of Firefly, a fourth of Hannibal, you name it. I would spend hours in comment sections arguing that any show with a loyal fanbase deserved at least 5 seasons no matter what. Then I rewatched The Tick on Amazon, which got 2 seasons and wrapped its story just fine, and something clicked for me. Now when a show gets axed after 2 seasons I mostly feel relieved, because I would rather get a tight ending than 4 more seasons of filler and retooled plots. Last month a friend asked me to sign a petition for a show that got canceled after season 1 and I said no, I told her to just let it stay good. Am I wrong for thinking most revivals end up worse than the original run, or does somebody have an example where season 3 or 4 actually topped what came before?
