My brother asked why I still want a second season of a show that got 17 million viewers, and I could not explain it right

Watched my buddy go through this exact thing last year with some sci fi show. He pulled up all these stats about how it was one of the most watched things on the platform that month, thinking that would make his case. His wife just stared at him and said ok but why do YOU care. He sat there for like ten seconds and finally goes because I need to know what happens to those characters. That was it. Turns out the numbers never mattered, he just wasn't done living in that world yet.

Feels like @josephjohnson got it backwards, the numbers can matter to people.
