Stopped by a random comic shop in Omaha last week and the owner said Firefly should get picked up again on a streaming service

He had a whole wall dedicated to Firefly merch and said Serenity aged way better than most sci-fi from that era, so has anyone heard any real buzz about a revival or is it just fan pipe dreams at this point?

Wait, didn't I read something about that Joss Whedon guy actually talking about a Firefly revival a while back? I swear I saw an interview where he mentioned having ideas for where the story would go if someone gave him the chance. But with all the stuff that came out about him on set and everything, I'm not sure any streaming service wants to touch that now. The cast is all doing their own thing too, Nathan Fillion is on that Rookie show and Alan Tudyk is always working in voice acting. Honestly, I think the ship sailed a long time ago, but man would I love to be wrong about that.

That 2012 interview with Whedon at some sci-fi expo, that's the one people always bring up. He laid out this whole multi-season arc about the Reavers and the Alliance that sounded really cool, but yeah, the Ray Fisher and Charisma Carpenter stuff changed everything. Even if Disney wanted to touch it from a legal standpoint, no big streamer wants the bad press of reviving a Whedon project now. Plus you're spot on about the cast, getting Jewel Staite, Sean Maher, and Ron Glass's character back would be impossible at this point, so the ship really did sail.
