My neighbor called my sagging headliner a 'lost cause,' but $14 later it looks almost new
I ran into Gary from two doors down at the auto parts store in Tulsa last month, and when I mentioned the fabric hanging over my back seat, he laughed and said I should just junk the car. He meant it as a joke, but it got me thinking about how fast people write off small fixes. Anyway, I grabbed a $14 can of spray adhesive and a pack of clear push pins, and after about 40 minutes on a Saturday the headliner is flat and stuck back up. It is not perfect, there are two wrinkles near the sunroof, but for 14 bucks it beat the $400 quote I got from the upholstery place. Has anyone tried the fabric tape method instead, or should I have gone that route from the start?
Man, I did the same thing last summer and I'm still shocked it held up! My headliner was drooping so bad it was basically a curtain over the back window, and the shop wanted something crazy like $350. I went with the spray glue and pins too, and yeah, mine has a couple of wrinkly spots near the visor, but who cares. I looked at the tape stuff at the store and it seemed like it would peel off once the heat kicks in, so I'd say you picked the right way. For 14 bucks you honestly can't beat it, and Gary can eat his words.
