The $25 junkyard alternator that saved my old Tahoe from the crusher
My 2002 Tahoe's alternator started screaming last month and the local shop quoted me $450 for a reman unit plus labor. I was honestly ready to sell it for scrap since the body has 240k miles and more rust than paint. Then my buddy who flips cars told me to hit the pull-a-part yard over in Akron and grab one off a wrecked Suburban. Paid $25 for it, spent an hour with a socket set in the rain, and swapped it in my driveway. The old one was completely shot, bearings were grinding like gravel in a blender. That truck runs perfect now and I'm not going to pretend it's not the best $25 I ever spent on a vehicle. Has anyone else had luck with junkyard parts on a car that felt like it was one repair away from the scrap heap?
