Cleaned out my old toolbox and found 100 pencils with less than an inch left
I was sorting through my main box from my first apprenticeship, back when we sharpened everything by hand. Every single stub had a story, like the one I used to mark the trim on that big Victorian in Tacoma. It hit me that I haven't sharpened a pencil in maybe five years, just grab a new mechanical one. Anyone else have a weird collection of worn-out tools that marks the passage of time?

Worn-out tools that mark the passage of time" is dead on. My old tape measure with the faded numbers tells a better story than any new one ever could.

What's the best story your tape measure tells?

Man, that's so true. My old framing hammer looks like it's been through a war, but I know every dent in it. New tools just don't have that soul.
