Saw a stat that made me rethink my saw blade setup
I was reading through Fine Woodworking last night and saw that only about 15% of carpenters regularly use a sharpening service for their circular saw blades. That number is crazy low to me. Here in Portland I pay $18 to get a 10 inch Diablo blade sharpened and it cuts way better than a new one. Has anyone else noticed a big difference after getting theirs done professionally?

Got a buddy who's a framer up in Seattle, swore by running his blades until they smoked. Finally talked him into trying a sharpening service and he called me two days later saying it was like his saw grew teeth for the first time. He still buys new ones instead of paying for sharpening though, drives me nuts.

Oh man, @danielr94, that reminds me of my buddy Marco who builds decks. He used to buy the cheapest blades at the hardware store and just burn through them until they were basically just spinning metal pancakes. I tried telling him about resharpening, but he was convinced it was a scam. Finally his drill got messed up from the vibration and he had no choice but to get a fresh sharpening. He called me raving that the saw cut through treated lumber like butter for the first time in a year. Still buys new blades every single time one gets dull though. I swear some people just love wasting money.
