The old oak joist in that 1920s Portland bungalow finally gave out on me last Thursday.
It had been sistered once before, but the new rot was hidden behind a layer of paint. Anyone have a good source for 3-inch thick rough-sawn fir in that area?

Guess that old joist decided retirement was more fun lol. Good luck finding wood that doesn't quit on you.

Actually, @kelly_nelson95, that joist probably failed because of rot or bugs, not retirement! Wood doesn't just get tired and quit. It's usually moisture or insects that cause the real damage. You have to check for those things before putting in new lumber. Otherwise you'll just have the same problem again in a few years. It's a real pain but finding the cause is the most important step.

I read somewhere @kelly_nelson95, termites are the real quitters.
