My boss in Dayton told me to skip the tack strip on concrete, I did it anyway and it saved the job
Last month we were doing a 400 sq ft basement in Dayton and the concrete was so crumbly that the tack strip nails just spun in the holes. My boss said to glue the strip down with construction adhesive, which sounded smart until I remembered a guy at a supply house in Cincinnati told me to just stretch the carpet tight and skip the strip on bad concrete. I tried it on half the room and the carpet has not moved an inch in 4 weeks, plus the homeowner said the edges look cleaner without the bump. Boss was mad for 2 days but now he is asking me to show the other guys. Anyone else run into crumbly slabs where tack strip is a waste of time?
