Ran into one warped tack strip under a piano in Fresno and it ate my whole Saturday
Last weekend I took a 12x15 bedroom job in Fresno and figured it would be a quick 4 hour in and out. The piano sat right over a spot where the old padding had soaked up years of spills, so the tack strip was soft and bent and the concrete under it was uneven. I tried to stretch it tight twice and the carpet kept popping loose on that one edge near the bench. I ended up pulling the whole corner up, patching the floor with leveler, and waiting a full day for it to cure. Took me 11 hours total instead of 4. Has anyone else had to deal with a piano corner like that, and do you charge extra when the subfloor is a mess?
That soft bent strip over old spills is the worst, I've had good luck cutting out the bad section and setting a new strip in leveler so there's something solid to grab. And yes, I add a subfloor prep charge when there's water damage, it's not fair to eat that time yourself.
