Just realized store brand canned tomatoes are better than name brand

I bought Great Value crushed tomatoes for 98 cents last week cause that's all I had. Made my chili with them and it actually tasted fresher than the $2.50 Hunt's I usually grab. My husband didn't even notice I switched. So are we all just paying extra for the label on pantry stuff? What store brand items have you found that actually beat the expensive ones?

Store brand paper towels are actually better than Bounty in my house. I got the Walmart ones cause they were cheaper and they don't tear apart when you try to wipe up a spill. The Bounty ones leave little fuzzies everywhere. Also their garlic powder is just as good as McCormick's for half the price. I started buying store brand for almost everything now except maybe ketchup cause that one I'm picky about.

Oh man, I feel you on the ketchup thing - some things you just can't swap out. But you're totally right about those store brand paper towels, I had the same experience and now I actually grab them over the name brand stuff too.
